Kuvaus:The objective of this review is to approach various historical events that are presented in the literary novel "Las Raíces Vivientes" by Quincen Duncan. For them, a content analysis was carried out on the different historical processes that the author portrays as: arrival of the Spanish invasion on Costa Rican soil, the subjugation of indigenous peoples, colonial settlement and development, enslavement, the formation of towns such as San José, Alajuela and Heredia in the 18th century, independence, and the Ochomogo War in 1823. In addition, a small personal reflection is made that aims to motivate the reader to read the novel from an introspective vision, having prior historical knowledge and relating it to current social problems
