Opis:Introduction: Communication plays a central role in the formation of social relationships, mainly through hearing. Therefore, people with hearing disabilities and their relatives face difficulties adapting to new circumstances in everyday life. Objective: To analyze the experiences of relatives in communicating with adults with hearing disabilities. Methods: A descriptive qualitative study was conducted with 15 relatives of adults with hearing disabilities registered with the National Council for the Integration of People with Disabilities in the city of Trujillo between December 2022 and February 2023. The interviews were conducted virtually from the participants’ homes and were recorded, transcribed and organized in a database. The analysis was performed using IRaMuTeQ software (Corpus organization, Lexical analysis, Top-down hierarchical classification (HHC)-Reinert method, Similarity analysis, and Category building assistance). The categorical thematic content analysis technique was also used. Results: The dendrogram revealed five thematic classes: Confrontations in sign language communication; Readaptations in the way of communicating in daily family life; Challenges in the process of communicating with adults with hearing impairment; Written and verbal communication as communication aids; and the concern of family members for the future of the adult with hearing impairment. Conclusion: The experiences of family members showed that their strategies and feelings regarding the uncertain future of people with hearing impairment are influenced by communication and interpersonal, economic and social relationships.
