City of fluxes and in infrastructure: The metropolitan evolution in the Panama Canal’s Pacific Zone

Descripción: | The Pacific Metropolitan Area of Panama City is well known for its emphasis in the services sector, which has caused changes in the dynamic and the morphology, speeding up due the foreign investment. Further, the country have had the challenge to incorporate the reversed areas by the United Stated from the former Zona del Canal in the process of metropolization. The Government have had to manage the insertion of this completely developed urban spaces which embrace three times more the Capital area in the dynamic metropolis. On the other hand, in the Banking International Center area, since two administrations, in the plan of territorial ordering of Panama City has been created the idea of a honkonization process, which consist in a more aggressive aperture of the markets, adopting the model of develop from this asian island, or as the former president Ricardo Martinelli likes to call it: “The America’s Dubai”, making emphasis in the new markets of aviation and transportation of assets. This article seeks to realize the first steps in the zone for an analysis, helped by economic geography and the territorial ordering. It tries to show up how has been build the recent metropolization in the Pacific Metropolitan Area, induced by the foreign investment in the Banking International Center and how in the Areas Revertidas along with the project Ciudad del Saber have made anurban transformation of big scale. |
