Beskrivning:Introduction: This paper addresses the emergence of community public art in Costa Rica through the study of the work of Alberto Moreno, Olga Coronado, and Eduardo Torijano. Objective: To identify the specificity of community public art at the national context, from a historical and critical framework that makes its study possible. Methods: Firstly, it confronts Latin American public art with the hegemonic trends after the decade of the seventies. Subsequently, it delves into the history of public art in Costa Rica to derive in the ways in which theory and artistic practice are amalgamated in the murals of Moreno, Torijano and Coronado by means of bibliographic material and interviews. Conclusions: It concludes on the contribution of these artists in introducing participatory processes and a political consciousness in the experience of the spectators within the muralism that will influence later public art.
