Descrizione:Costa Rica ends the first decade of the XXI century without being able of overcoming the structural and institutional shortcomings that unable the country to firmly advance in direction of achieving greater levels of economic development and social well being. The last three decades have being characterized by a process in which the model of development has focused on policies of macroeconomic stability and on a strategy of economic development based on the external sector of the economy. The results of the economic reform and the strategy of development, promoted since the decade of the 1980s, has been insufficient to retake the path of productive transformation with social equity.
