Descripción:The missionary experience in Korea is sui generis. The first Catholic converts were the Koreans themselves with the indirect support of the Jesuits residing in China, who suffered bloody persecution until the 19th century, when Catholic and Protestant missionary activity was allowed. The proposal of this paper seeks to explain the frustrated attempts at Jesuit evangelization since 1547, the endogenous establishment of a Catholic Church in 1784 and the encounters and disagreements between Catholic and Protestant missionaries after 1865.
