Descripción:During decades, countless experiments conducted on the XX century attempted to create a viable and usable sample of 2D allotrope of carbon: graphene. However it was considered too unstable and impossible to obtain through physical methods. Even though the theoretical capabilities of the material were outstanding, all attempts failed and its destiny seemed to be nothing but descriptions and theories in books. Until in 2004, scientists of the University of Manchester in England developed a method to obtain stable and functional graphene, a discovery that during the last decade would trigger an explosion of research in all fields of science. This article introduces the reader to the discovery and consequent develop of applications of graphene to the medical field.
