Access to Fine Arts Programs for Indigenous Students in Costa Rica: Migration, Identity, and Culture

| Beskrivelse: | Grounded in the understanding of formal education as a fundamental human right, this article analyzes the historical, geographical, and institutional circumstances that have shaped Indigenous peoples' access to university degree programs in Fine Arts in Costa Rica. From a decolonial perspective, and through an interdisciplinary analysis grounded in historical sources, official statistical data, and spatial analysis, it examines the structural barriers as well as the scope and limitations of public policies aimed at promoting a more inclusive higher education system. The analysis also relates these processes to Indigenous migration, identity, and culture in the twenty-first century, demonstrating how the centralization of higher education provision reproduces territorial and cultural inequalities that restrict access, retention, and student participation. The study highlights the need to strengthen a multicultural and intercultural higher education model that guarantees the effective exercise of the right to education for Indigenous peoples. |
