Descripción:The rapid aging of the world population, encourages an interest in the research of older adults from the perspective psychosocial, economic and of active aging, considering impact and relationship between this aspects. In this field, Chile is positioned as the third country with the fastest aging in Latin America. For this and from the perspective of economic psychology, the aim of this first study is to explore the life satisfaction, financial capabilities and possible relationships between these variables in a sample of older adults with active aging in Souther Chile. A questionnaire was applied to 101 older adults, which included the Satisfaction with Life scale (Diener et al., 1985), Attitudes toward Indebtedness (Denegri et al., 2012), and Security and Financial Independence (Carpenter & Moore, 2008). As part of the exploration, exploratory factor analysis was done for each scale. The instruments presented adequate levels of internal consistency. A direct and positive correlation (r = 0.365, p ˂ 0.001) was found between life satisfaction and the attitude towards austere indebtedness, as well as self-perception of independence and security in the management of personal finances (r = 0.367, p ˂ 0.001), and between the austere indebtedness style (r = 0.356, p ˂ 0.001). These results and their implications are discussed.
