Descripción:This article brings together the results of a descriptive study carried out with the objective of determining the main e-commerce practices carried out by commercial SMEs in Guápiles de Pococí, Limón, Costa Rica, to identify the barriers that hinder their implementation. This research adopts an exploratory descriptive approach. The population under study is the SMEs registered in the municipal database until 2020, located in the district of Guápiles. A statistical sample of 228 surveys was established, selected at convenience and according to criteria that ensured a confidence level of 95% and a margin of error of 6%. The data was collected through a digital questionnaire, administered in person during the month of July 2022. Among the most notable results, it was found that most of the companies are microbusinesses, family-based and run by men. Likewise, it was observed that the technologies used focus on facilitating online commercial transactions, highlighting the use of banking platforms such as SINPEMÓVIL for the cancellation of the operation. In terms of product promotion and interaction with customers, social networks, especially Facebook and WhatsApp, play a predominant role. The main barriers identified include limited financial capacity, insufficient broadband connection infrastructure and cultural obstacles in companies that hinder the adoption of technological changes.
