Descripción:The paper analyzes the relationship between the level of local development and the economic structure and other endogenous factors in the analyzed territories. Using an exploratory and correlational methodology, a series of relationships are studied between the Social Development Index (SDI) and the economic structure and other structural factors in the districts of Costa Rica. The research question that guides the research is: How are the economic structure and some structural factors related to the level of development of the districts of Costa Rica? Results show a negative relationship between the SDI and the districts where the primary economic sector predominates, as well as positive relationships between the SDI and districts where the secondary and tertiary economic sectors predominate. In addition, the internal index was investigated, where a lag in the districts of the primary sector was evidenced in health, education, and economic areas. Other negative relationships were found between the destination of crop production and land use.
