Cur Síos:Trocitos de carbón (1923), by Carlos Gagini, is analyzed as one of the first cases of an inclusive nationalism that takes into account the provinces of Guanacaste, Puntarenas and Limón. At the same time, the text materializes the remnants of a discriminatory racism of those elements considered then as foreigners or immigrants, such as black people from Limón, accepted only if they assimilate the hegemonic culture of the central valley.
