| Beskrivning: | This article aims to analyze the management and conservation model for the olive ridley turtle in the community of Ostional, Guanacaste, Costa Rica, through a critical human rights approach using the “Community-Territory-Environment-Human Rights” Matrix. The central question guiding the analysis is: How are the concepts of community, territory, environment, and environmental human rights integrated into the relationship between turtle-egg conservation and the socioeconomic development of the Ostional community? To address this question, ethnographic research has been conducted, and theoretical–methodological tools like the matrix have been employed to understand the phenomenon. Ostional in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, holds significant social, cultural, economic, and historical value, particularly due to the phenomenon of olive ridley turtle arribadas [mass synchronised sea turtle nesting] on its beaches, which attracts both local and global interest. Territorial conservation and socioeconomic development are managed within a multi-level governance framework that involves institutions and actors from different scales and sectors. Ostional is a rural area facing challenges such as poverty, inequality, and limited access to basic services, where infrastructure significantly impacts costs and access to essential goods and services. |
