الوصف:This article examines Roque Dalton’s poetic production during his exile in Mexico, with a particular focus on his collections El turno del ofendido (1962) and Los testimonios (1964). During this period, Dalton deeply explores themes of displacement, solitude, and the impossibility of returning to his homeland, issues that not only reflect his personal experience but also his political stance asan exiled intellectual. Dalton’s poetry thus becomes a mirror of the internal tensions that arise between his estrangement from his homeland and the construction of a new identity in exile. In addition to his political concerns, Dalton demonstrates a profound interest in Mesoamerican mythology and anthropology. This focus allows him to craft an indigenist poetics that challengesthe colonial and oppressive structures that persist in Latin America. Through this lens, his poetry serves as a means to address historical violence and the processes of decolonization within a Latin American context marked by social injustice. Dalton’s poetry emerges as a form of resistance against the dictatorships of his time, also illustrating how exile impacted not only his personal experience but also his conception of art and literature. This analysis of his time in Mexico highlights his invaluable contribution to the decolonial literary tradition and underscores his lasting influence on contemporary Latin American poetry.
