Description:This research article analyzes the indicators of competitiveness and sustainability of oil cities such as Coatzacoalcos, Minatitlan, Salamanca, Tehuantepec-Salina Cruz and Tula. This analysis includes their respective positions at a national level and a comparative exercise between them. This work is justified primarily by the significant contribution that these cities historically have had in the local and regional economy, and in Mexico in general. On the other hand, it is justified by the severe crisis experienced since 2015 following the collapse of the international price of oil. Likewise, the paper explores some of the variables that explain the competitiveness levels registered in these cities and some of the possibilities that, in matters of public policy, are available to address the major challenges they face in these moments.
