實物特徵:The San Vito wetland is located in the town of San Joaquín, in the San Vito district of Coto Brus, Puntarenas, Costa Rica. The objective of this work is to analyze the causes of the variations in the wetland extent over 68 years. Among the possible environmental impacts are mainly contemplated the anthropic modifications made during the 1950s, with the construction of the airport and the drainage of a good part of the wetland. These changes were caused by the agricultural colonization of Coto Brus, the expansion of the agricultural frontier associated with coffee, livestock and population growth. In addition, there is a direct relationship to the climatic variability expressed in years of influence of El Niño and La Niña phenomena when the wetland extent varied significantly. It is concluded that changes in the San Vito wetland are due to the lack of effective environmental policies in the past, absence of land management, and variations in precipitation patterns. This study proves to be a technical input for the management and future conservation of mountain wetlands.
