Descripción:El problema, is a novel written by the Guatemalan intellectual Maximum Soto Hall (1871-1944), in 1899. Its plot  develops  in Costa Rica but in a hypothetical future. This work has been ranked by some scholars as the first anti- imperialist novel and succeeded in cutting widely both in his time, as well as one century later due to the historiographical controversies it arose. This analysis is the result of an academic workshop on the novel.  It aims to point out some considerations on the anti-imperialist ideological project and the contradictions present in the novel.  It also seeks to point out some of the novel aesthetic components to locate romantic and modernist features also present in it.
