Cur Síos:On January 8, 2009, an earthquake in Costa Rica caused many landslides, resulting in severe environmental and social damage. The cloudiness of the affected area allowed only approximate mapping of area. Collaboration between the Costa Rican Institute of Electricity (ICE) and the School of Geographic Sciences at National University of Costa Rica (UNA) made it possible to take a detailed inventory of the landslides through image analysis via Laser Imaging Detection and Ranging (LiDAR). A comprehensive review of each of the orthophotos and 3D viewing on a Geographic Information System (GIS) allowed digitalizing landslides at 1:1000 scale. The map of the Cinchona earthquake coseismic landslides reveals a pattern of concentration of the landslides to the northeast and north of the epicenter, which is consistent with steep slope, high humidity and deep layers of regolith areas.
