Cur Síos:This interview explores the career of Guatemalan sociologist Marta Elena Casaús Arzú. In her words, she takes a look at her multifaceted trajectory and the correlation between her research and political advocacy. A context characterized by popular insurrections, the start of Bernardo Arévalo’s government in Guatemala and neo-populisms in Central America, as well as her intellectual and activist experience, provide the frame of reference for Dr. Casaús Arzú’s reflections. Subjects such as the role of universities in facing the problems of the present, the challenges and advances of social movements, racism as a historical problem and the importance of memory as a mechanism of resistance are addressed.
