Περιγραφή:With a philosophical and historical perspective, the article proposes to analyze a social facet, scarcely investigated by the historiographies of Cuba and Costa Rica, of the prominent Cuban pro-independence Antonio Maceo: his status as an organic intellectual of his time. From a historical characterization on this type of intellectual, it is analyzed how Maceo acquired such a condition, as well as the role that liberalism and its ideas had in Costa Rica at the end of the XIX century to complete it. It is also intended to demonstrate that this condition has been largely ignored despite its historical existence, for which Costa Rica provided a very favorable social context during the stay that developed the mythical Caribbean personality.
