Descrizione:Metadata are keys for the categorization of information in digital services. In essence, it is about cataloguing and classifying information and its use constitutes one of the best practices in information management and in the same way that catalogues and OPAC's impact on better services to users, be they virtual libraries, e-government, e-learning or e-health; they are also the basis for future developments such as the Semantic Web.The subject is of particular interest to librarians as knowledge organizers know classification schemes, data registration rules such as AACR2 and specialized vocabularies. This document deals with some basic concepts in this regard and comments on the steps that Latin America is taking in this global issue.
