| תיאור: | Early political regimes in Latin America granted significant portions of the adult population the formal right to vote, but the evolution of electoral provisions was neither uniform over time nor consistent across countries. Electoral engineering employed mechanisms such as indirect and public voting, which shaped the extent of mass involvement in public affairs. Drawing on an original database containing information on political institutions and events, this article systematically analyzes, through descriptive inference and bivariate analysis, long-term patterns of electoral inclusion in 19 Latin American countries, from independence to 2005. |
