Descripción:Between July 2005 and December 2006 a biodiversity inventory was performed in La Marta Wildlife Reserve -located in the Cartago Province--, supported by volunteers recruited by the north American organization International Student Volunteers and by inhabitants of the surrounding communities. With the leadership of a wildlife conservation expert, information of the species of birds, amphibians and mammals of the second forest growth was collected, together with their relative abundance and other population parameters when possible. Using a variety of techniques a total of 225 species were detected. As products of the project there are a technical report with recommendations for the animal management and its use by tourists, along with a species catalogue for local education purposes. The participation of foreign volunteers and local inhabitants in wildlife conservation projects is highlighted.
