Descripción:From the problem of waste in popular festivals in Brazil, this paper analyzes the ISO 20121, which presents the requirements of a management system for sustainability of events. Through documentary and bibliographic research, and participant observation in three popular festivals from 2016 to 2019, after event of the cycle of world mega events based in Brazil (Pan American Games 2007/Olympic Games 2016) the paper discusses the sustainability of mega events in the interface of regulation, self-regulation and environmental justice
