Descripción: | This article presents a summary of a bicycle mobility study in a region of the province of Cartago in Costa Rica. This mobility study includes the use of topographic map contour lines to establish the most favorable locations for cyclists, which was complemented with land use maps and site visits in order to identify the main sources of origin and destination for cyclists´ trips. Bicycle counts were made at several points, also origin-destination surveys were conducted to study the mobility, and a detailed survey to characterize the cyclists in the region was performed. From the information that was collected, a cycling mobility network was generated. Most of the cyclists in this area are young adults of a similar socioeconomic status who travel for work purposes. It is evident that the area has spatial characteristics that can facilitate cycling by road infrastructure enhancement. |
