Miêu tả:This article addresses the translation of dialect in literary texts. It is based on three premises: 1. The language of narrators and characters is relevant both for their characterization and for the construction of the context in which the action takes place; 2. there is no unique way to translate dialect; and 3. the different ways of doing it depend on the circumstances in which the translation is generated. The translation of marked language in “The Artful Touch,” a flash-fiction story by Charles Dickens, is addressed from three different approaches: neutralization, homologation and (social) compensation. The resulting translations may be deemed appropriate depending on the situation.
