Descripció:[Introduction]: Forest plantations play a key role in climate change mitigation by acting as carbon sinks and reservoirs, while also providing multiple ecosystem goods and services. Accurate quantification of biomass and carbon in these ecosystems is essential to estimate their contribution to carbon sequestration. [Objective]: This study aimed to develop allometric models to estimate whole-tree and component biomass and carbon in mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla King) plantations in Costa Rica. [Methodology]: Destructive sampling was conducted on 49 trees, covering a diameter range from 4.9 cm to 42.9 cm. Stem, branch, leaf, and root biomass were quantified through field weighing and laboratory determination of dry matter. Simple regression models were then fitted using diameter at breast height (DBH) as the predictor variable. Model selection was based on statistical criteria and graphical residual analysis. [Results]: The carbon fraction ranged from 0.45 to 0.49 depending on the tree component, with foliage showing the highest value (0.49). The stem accounted for 55.2 % of total biomass, followed by branches (20.1 %), roots (19.51 %), and leaves (8.05 %). The aboveground biomass expansion factor was 1.54, comprising 1.38 for branches and 1.16 for foliage, while the root biomass expansion factor was 1.37. The fitted models showed coefficients of determination (R²) ranging from 83.4 % for leaf carbon to 98.4 % for total biomass, with estimation errors below 7 % for woody fractions. [Conclusions]: The allometric models developed in this study provide accurate and efficient estimates of biomass and carbon in S. macrophylla, supporting their application in forest management and carbon accounting.
