Descripción:This study analyzes scenarios for carbon capture and release in the forest cover of the State of Mexico. The information was obtained from the State cartography, scale 1:250 000 and the rates of change of land use in the period 2002-2010; using the general method for carbon storage and biomass factors default. The vulnerability of the forest cover is expressed in the degradation of the main carbon reservoirs, the scant attention given to shrubby and herbaceous covers, the abandonment of agricultural land and the slow process of natural regeneration and reconstitution of carbon sinks. Strategies of social adaptation in contexts of degradation and climate change must measure the intrinsic relationship of inappropriate land use practices, elimination of carbon sinks and the progressive increase in emissions of greenhouse gases.
