Modeling RDA Relationships Using Neo4J: Evaluation of a Workshop Held as Part of the Special Information Resources Organization Course

| Descripció: | This study examined the effectiveness of a Neo4j training program designed to teach third-year students how to model, create, and manage knowledge graphs using specialized materials in accordance with RDA principles. The objective was to evaluate the effectiveness of a training workshop on RDA relationship modeling with the Neo4j database for the development of technological competencies, aimed at third-year students in the Special Information Resources Organization course. The methodology employed was a pre-post quasi-experimental study with 19 participants in the initial assessment and 18 in the final assessment. Structured questionnaires were administered to assess prior knowledge and measure subsequent learning outcomes. The workshop combined theoretical components on RDA, FRBR/LRM, and linked data with guided practical exercises in Neo4j using real catalog records. Part of the results from the initial assessment revealed a learning paradox: while 89% were familiar with RDA and 74% recalled MARC 21 tags, 79% did not know what a graph is. Following the presentation, 100% of participants acknowledged the usefulness of graphs for identifying bibliographic relationships and revealing hidden patterns. In conclusion, the workshop proved to be highly effective in bridging the technological gap among the participating population. The results showed a significant transformation: from an initial 79% lack of knowledge about graphs, participants achieved 100% recognition of their usefulness in identifying bibliographic relationships and their applicability in the context of RDA. Furthermore, the data reveal a need to integrate graph and linked data applications into library science curricula so that future generations of professionals possess up-to-date skills in information management technologies. |
