Opis:The project “Innovation and valorization of agri-food and tourism products, linked to associative systems” was conceived by CONARE in 2021 and implemented until 2024 to develop innovation strategies and productive capacities in Upala, Guatuso, and Los Chiles, cantons of Costa Rica’s North-North Territory, a vulnerable border region facing socioeconomic and environmental challenges. Using a qualitative methodology that included surveys of 64 interested individuals and interviews with seven student volunteers, participant profiles, motivations, and impacts were explored. Results revealed that most participants were young women from Upala, with intermediate technological proficiency, motivated by tourism learning and community contribution. Improvements were observed in strategic planning, marketing, product development, environmental awareness, and local empowerment, although challenges related to time and connectivity persist. The low awareness of CONARE’s role and that of public universities highlighted the need to improve communication and ensure the continuity of such projects to enhance the region’s sustainable development.
