Descripción:This article aims to empirically demonstrate how the agents of education, in particular the Unit of METICS and the teaching staff of the University of Costa Rica, promote changes to close the gap that has emerged between what the education system provides and what society demands, due to the fast expansion of science and technology. A type of education through the social network Facebook for the Mathematics course MA-1001 is unveiled. The social network is used as a support for teaching and to encourage the collaborative work in a group of students seeking to prepare for the first and second partial examinations of the course MA-1001. Through the theoretical basis and an opinion poll virtually applied to members of the group, there is empiric evidence of the contribution that TIC and social networks provide in the processes of teaching and learning mathematics.
