| תיאור: | This paper characterizes the labor demand for graduates of Costa Rica’s public universities, within the context of increasingly automated processes and tasks. The study draws on data from the 2013–2016 graduate survey conducted by the Consejo Nacional de Rectores (National Council of Rectors, CONARE, 2019). An analysis was conducted comparing employers’ desired performance with actual performance; activities were also classified according to their susceptibility to automation, as identified in the literature review. Among the main findings is that the most repetitive and routine tasks are classified as having the greatest automation potential, while there are also certain differences between what employers consider important and graduates' actual performance, such as time management and proficiency in a second language (in this case, English). The incorporation of digital and automation components is necessary to strengthen higher education curricula and to provide the necessary inputs to equip individuals with the skills and knowledge needed to navigate an increasingly digitalized and occupationally flexible labor market. |
