Popis:Traumatic reticuloperitonitis is a disease that can severely affect cattle by producing important chronic effects leading to decreased productive performance and early culling. The ingestion of sharp objects, which can cause reticuloperitonitis as a primary cause, is the primary factor. Conditions such as ruminal contractions and the pressure of the gravid uterus may favor the disease. This paper describes clinical aspects and post-mortem findings of a case of reticuloperitonitis in an eight-year old Bos indicus male. Special emphasis is made on the clinical approach and the ultrasound findings of the abdominal and thoracic cavities. As a result of the clinical diagnosis supported with ultrasound images, a septic pericarditis was evidenced. Given its condition, the animal was sacrificed. Consequently, macroscopic and microscopic organic alterations caused by the disease are reported in the paper.
