Kuvaus: | This article analyzes the state of the art regarding science fiction in Central America. For this purpose, articles, theses and book chapters published between 2014 and 2024 that address at least one science fiction text written by a Central American author were considered. This bibliographic review made it possible to detect two dominant trends: on the one hand, those analyzes with a historiographical interest; on the other hand, those that propose a specific reading of a text or a specific corpus. This last trend is in turn subdivided into 8 groups: criticism of the neoliberal model, readings from biopolitics, presence of mythical-religious elements in the texts, readings from ecocriticism or ecofeminism, emphasis on posthuman figures, readings based on postcolonial or decolonial theories and readings that relate texts to specific contexts. Likewise, based on these discoveries, the article proposes a series of challenges and reflections on the study of science fiction in the Central American isthmus. Among these we have: the expansion of the list of both authors and texts beyond narrative, the search for texts whether in digital or printed formats, the systematization and characterization of science fiction in the region and the establishment of relationships between Central American science fiction and other non-mimetic genres. |
