Opis:The article analyze the concept of democracy in the Social Studies syllabus for all levels of secondary school of Costa Rica. The initiative aims to generate data for teachers to recognize the implicit discourses that are legitimized around democracy. To achieve this, a qualitative methodology with an interpretative approach based on Foucault’s discourse analysis was used. The study concludes that the program legitimizes a knowledge of democracy that sustains the Costa Rican status quo based on oppositions such as the military-political stability, the emphasis on electoral democracy and the absence of topics that refer to the country’s social movements.
