Περιγραφή:The objective of the article consists on presenting a critical analysis of how income inequality is measured in Latin America in a comparative fashion. To this end, the two measuring approaches are explained: 1) the functional distribution of income based on aggregate data from the national accounts, and 2) the distribution of income between families/households or individuals, which groups the traditional measuring through surveys and the approach of top income shares. Furthermore, the article explains he principal advantages, limitations, and key findings associated with both of these approaches. The analysis is based on a review of the comparative literature on the measuring of inequality, which prioritizes the works carried out in the 21st century and does not intend to exhaust the vast amount of research on the subject. Finally, the analysis suggests complementing the measurements and their data sources to deepen the distributional analysis. In Latin America, this implies re-evaluating the decrease in inequality based on surveys, since it would result in a lower rate if administrative data are incorporated and from the functional distribution it does not mean a better balance between work and capital. s of how income inequality is measured in Latin America in a comparative fashion.
