| Diğer Bilgiler: | Islamic ritual practice and law, including the various ways in which they govern the body, distinguish Islam from other religious traditions and thus are, in part, constitutive of Muslim identity. In spite of the undisputed centrality of the body in the formation of subjectivity and identity, Islamic ritual practices are often contested. This compilation of works on the body aims to make sense of some of these contested spaces, as well as the roles that ritual purity and discipline play in training the body to perform rituals effectively. Furthermore, it also traces the historical origin of a few of these ritual practices—especially those that center upon role of the Prophet Muḥammad’s body and his personal example—and examines the different ways that the Prophet’s legacy is interpreted theologically and legally within the Muslim community. |
