| Descrição: | [Introduction]: Agricultural intensification over recent decades has raised growing concerns regarding the environmental impacts of pesticide use, particularly on groundwater quality. [Objective]: This study aimed to identify sectors within the district exhibiting the highest potential risk of groundwater contamination from pesticide use during the 2013/2014–2022/2023 period, while proposing management strategies that promote resource conservation and agricultural sustainability. [Methodology]: The study developed the Integrated Risk Classification (IRC) indicator to assess environmental risk associated with pesticide use at the territorial scale by integrating variables related to agricultural dynamics, input application, and local edaphic characteristics. The index was applied across the Ecological Units comprising Benito Juárez district—a representative politico-administrative unit of the Argentine Pampas—where significant land use/cover transformations have been documented. [Results]: Findings revealed pronounced spatial heterogeneity in risk, with two units classified as high-risk and others as low or moderate. Implementing alternative strategies, such as buffer zones and label-compliant dose restrictions, significantly reduced risk across several units. [Conclusions]: The IRC indicator proves to be a highly valuable tool for subregional environmental planning and the sustainable management of pesticide use. |
