Descripción:This paper has been written within the framework of the Project (FIDA-0524-10) Perceptions and realities to assist students educational needs: Proposal for professional development and its implementation at Universidad Nacional. It contains preliminary results presented at UNA, in 2014.  Since education is a human right, it is essential to promote analysis and discussion regarding the opportunities of accessibility to quality education, so that students are granted equity and fair conditions for learning. From a qualitative research approach, this study attempts to reveal the social constructions about the terms disability and educational needs within this particular university institution.  Based on the perceptions of UNA’s academic staff who participated in the study, data analysis depicts that different constructions of disability emerge within a social dimension. These constructions may impact the educational field at the university level in relation to the appropriate assistance students required to access education.  Throughout all regional sites of UNA, academic staff expresses a variety of constructions about the term educational needs, not a single definition prevails (from which it can be inferred there is conceptual ambiguity about this term).  In a social dimension, these range from a traditional view to a more current and flexible. Moreover, it is often misleaded with the other terms such as care or teaching aids.  Regarding the term disability, most of the constructions are reductionist and do not regard the concept in a broad and relational way it is currently conceived.  Results point out the importance of providing educational training to university academic staff about disabilities and assisting students’ educational needs.
