Rural community psychology and Psychodrama: Anexperience of group work in the Chorotega region,Costa Rica

| Beskrivelse: | The following describes the experienceof university outreach work for the project conducted by the School of Psychology at the Universidad Nacional of Guanacaste, during the 2024 period. This work is located in the community in a rural Costa Rican context of Corralillo de Filadelfia, Guanacaste. These experiences are presented in the form of a dialogue to demonstrate how psychodrama aligns with community psychology and critical university outreach. The methodology usedconsisted of two phases of community work with people suffering from chronic kidney disease: a semi-structured individual interview with fourparticipants and a second phase of two group projects using psychodrama techniques. Data analysis was conducted through thematic analysis, which identified thematic similarities inthe instruments used and contrasted them with the theory presented. Rather than describing the findings from the research instruments presented, this study seeks to view this experience not from the perspective of chronic kidney disease but rather as a contribution ofpsychodrama to rural community psychology theory and practice. Thus, this article is a theoretical and methodological dialogue basedon a situated experience. It seeks to answer questions such as: What does spontaneity have to do with social transformation? Is it possibleto conduct critical university outreach in a rural area using psychodrama? Among the most important findings is the psychodrama method as a reference for community intervention when addressing chronic illnesses in a community. By creating group spaces, people with this condition can share their experiences after diagnosis, thuscreating a support network for improving their quality of life. |
