| Descripció: | Introduction: Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) training is an innovative technique that can offer significant benefits for athletic performance and overall health. In addition to improving strength gains and muscle hypertrophy, BFR has shown a significant impact on the rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries and the promotion of a healthy lifestyle, making it a relevant topic of interest. Objective: To identify the methodological aspects of BFR in order to provide a more comprehensive understanding of this technique and its potential in sports and clinical settings. Method: A document review was conducted using the search equation «blood flow restriction therapy» AND «blood flow restriction exercise» in the PubMed/MEDLINE and DOAJ databases. Four eligibility criteria were applied, and the selected articles were analyzed based on variables related to BFR methodology. Results: The findings indicate that when using BFR, several parameters or recommendations should be considered to enhance its effectiveness and safety: working at 30% of one’s Repetition Maximum (RM), employing a training volume of 4 sets (30-15-15-15 repetitions), and resting between sets for 30 to 60 seconds. Conclusions: A clear methodological variability is evident in the application of BFR training; however, recurring trends are identified, such as the use of low loads, four-set protocols with high-repetition schemes, and rest intervals ranging from 30 to 60 seconds. Despite these similarities, differences across studies highlight the need for continued research to move toward greater methodological consistency. |
