Περιγραφή:During a calendar year, from September 2001 to August 2002, ticks were collected from dogs that were taken to 5 veterinary clinics of Mora, Santa Ana and Escazú, a region located in an area of noticeable seasonality rains. During that period the ticks were according to genus, species, stage, time of year and then were counted. During the year, ticks in 97 dogs were collected, out of a total of 5980 checked dogs. In 12 of the 97 dogs canines only ticks of the Amblyomma genus were recovead, and one case presented a mixed infestation with Rhipicephalus sanguineus and A. cajennense. The rest of the infested dogs were single infested with Rhipicephalus sanguineus. Significant differences were not found in relation to place, time of the year or specific stages. Among the identified significant differences between months, however, in the months of May, June and September there were greater amounts of ticks and greater amount of infested dogs with R. sanguineus. A description of the areas where the presence of R. sanguineus was detected and stastics about the molting length of R. sanguineus nymphs under laboratory conditions are shown in this report.
