| Descripción: | This paper analyzes institutions in relation to the most significant economic changes in El Salvador. The research covers the period 1979–2008 because this period saw structural economic changes such as the crisis and the establishment of a new economic model, which makes it ideal for analyzing, from a historical and evolutionary perspective, the sectors that benefited and those that were harmed, as well as the type of economic dynamics influenced by the policies implemented. The objective is to provide relevant information to highlight the role of institutions in socioeconomic history, which is often overlooked in economic analyses. However, the importance of institutions in the Salvadoran economic spectrum was decisive during the period under study. The current model has reflected institutional changes, some with teleological characteristics, others with a random historical factor, but regardless of their basis, they have had a significant influence on economic activity. |
