Opis:The relationship between preconceptions about knowledge, epistemological beliefs and learning possibilities is a relevant problem to be studied when trying to alleviate the very characteristic dropout of the first year in higher education. In addition, a better knowledge of these preconceptions also facilitates the work of vocational guidance teams. In this article, we propose to investigate the differences between the prior beliefs of students who have chosen majors in Social Sciences and those who have chosen majors in Exact Sciences. For this purpose, the results obtained in an inventory of epistemological beliefs will be compared between the two defined groups, using statistical tools. The results indicate that there is at least a partial and significant influence of prior beliefs on knowledge as a function of the chosen orientation.
