| Description: | Serological monitoring was conducted in domestic ducks and geese from the municipality of Río Blanco, San Marcos, in Guatemala’s western highlands. A total of 112 serum samples were taken from 83 Muscovy ducks (Cairina moschata) and 29 domestic geese (Anser anser var. domesticus) to determine the seroprevalence of H5N2 Low Pathogenic Avian Influenza (LPAI), by the haemagglutination inhibition test. A point seroprevalence of 0.89% was determined, with only 1 Muscovy duck out of 112 showing antibodies considered positive for the disease. The results indicate the presence of antibodies against H5N2 LPAI in a duck not vaccinated by the animal health service, suggesting exposure to the virus and possible circulation in the area. Therefore, it is necessary to remove obstacles to implement adequate surveillance and control strategies in the country. |
