Descripción:This study analysed the water availability of the Sanitation and Water Supply Administration Association (ASADA) of Horquetas de Sarapiquí for the year 2021 and projected future demand based on population growth and new service requests. A water balance methodology adapted for communal aqueducts was used, considering climatic and population variables. The results indicated that the aqueduct, which serves 20,134 people, is deteriorated and had a water deficit of 37.98 l/s for the year under study; in addition, its monthly flow rate was 39.07 l/s compared to a demand of 77.05 l/s. Only 9% of surface water sources have protective meshes and future population growth will exacerbate the situation regarding drinking water availability.
