Descripción:A case-control study data from 75 dairy herds that used VAMPP 5.1 as management information system was performed to investigate the relationship of inbreeding coefficient (IC) and retained fetal membranes (RFM). Inbreeding coefficient was calculated by Wrightˈs formula. Six hundred and thirty cows with RFM were matched to all possible controls with follow characteristics: same farm, same breed, same parity, and with a calving date ± 180 days. Inbreeding distribution ranged from 0.0% to 25.0& wirh average of 4.5%. only 1400 calves had some grade of inbreeding . Cows delivering calves with an IC greater  or equal to 6.25% had 13.3 more chance of suffering RFM. These results indicate taht the IC should uses as an additional criterion in the selection of the bull in reproduction programs. To our knowledge is the first epidemiological report of the relation of the offspringˈs IC and RFM in the dam.
