Landscape ecology: theoretical-conceptual foundations andscientific production in America for the years 2019-2024

| Descripció: | Landscape ecology is conceived as an interdisciplinary field that analyzes the complexand dynamic interaction between the biophysical and anthropogenic components ofa territory, understood as a constantly transforming geographic system. Grounded in ecology and drawing on contributions from geography, this discipline has evolved to-ward an integrative approach that allows for the examination of the composition, struc-ture, dynamics, and functionality of the landscape, as well as its spatial and temporal transformations, through the use of geospatial metrics and technologies. The objectiveof this study was to analyze the conceptual development of landscape ecology and its articulation with landscape structure, as well as to evaluate trends in scientific production in the Americas during the period 2019–2024. A systematic literature review was conducted using Web of Science and Scopus, complemented by a bibliometric analy-sis aimed at identifying production patterns and scientific collaboration networks. The results demonstrate a conceptual and methodological consolidation of the discipline,along with sustained growth in scientific production, led by the United States, Canada,and Brazil. Approaches focused on fragmentation, ecological connectivity, and the use of geospatial tools predominate, with an increasing incorporation of quantitative meth-ods. Landscape ecology constitutes a strategic framework for sustainable land management and biodiversity conservation by integrating spatial patterns and their relationship to ecological processes. |
