An overview of latest research on brucellosis vaccine: can we enhance protection efficacy with trained immunity?

| Opis: | Brucellosis is an important zoonotic disease of nearly worldwide distribution. This pathogen causes abortion in domestic animals and undulant fever, arthritis, endocarditis and meningitis in humans. Currently, there is no vaccine licensed for brucellosis in humans. Furthermore, control of brucellosis in the human population relies on the control of animal disease. Available animal vaccines may cause disease, and in some cases, have limite defficacy. This presentation will describe recent studies in the development of recombinant protein, DNA, RNA and live attenuated vaccines against brucellosis. Additionally, we will discuss the integration of the concept of trained innate immunity into vaccine development which can significantly enhances immune protection against brucellosis. Furthermore, we will call the attention of the scientific community, for the challenge of these novel vaccine initiatives to bypass the regulatory barriers present in several endemic countries. |
