CARTOGRAPHY CENSUS IN COSTA RICA: FROM ANALOG TO DIGITAL FORMAT

| Disgrifiad: | Costa Rica has lacked updated census information since the year 2000. Therefore, in 2011, the Na -tional Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC) conducted the X National Population and Housing VI Census. Preparation for the census began three years before its execution date and resulted in a new methodological strategy to reach the population through home visits and also to map to the country’s geographical area. This article aims to show the most significant changes that culminated in the digital mapping associated with a Geographical Information System (GIS) with features exclusively from the census. With this, we discuss the use, benefits and consequences of this mapping to Costa Rican society. |
